pacific rim is seriously over-hyped, and it is really surprising how this show is receiving rave reviews all over the place!
yes, the effects are good. but otherwise, the whole plot is really forced to fit a checklist of must have things in this movie.

so i assumed this was the production team’s checklist:
1. must have giants destroying cities
2. the world will build something to protect themselves from these giants
3. whatever they build must be pilot by two person somewhat telepathically
4. this thing the world have build will eventually fails and higher authority will cancel this program to fund something useless instead
5. the commander of the failed program will go rogue and have his own plan
6. the rogue plan will eventually save the world, while someone sacrifice themselves, usually the commander
7. but the person who sacrifice cannot be the one who completes the mission
8. cause the hero who completes the mission have to stay alive
9. so that they can fly the victory aircraft over the heroes
10. plenty of robots boxing aliens scene
11. But aliens can die really easily with sword

and so with this checklist, the force the plot in. oh gosh! i think the whole plot is so bad, that no matter how good the effects were, it completely spoilt the whole movie. i mean, come on! even Godzilla plot is so much better! and it’s a 1998 movie.

i suspect i will keep ranting about this movie each time someone give a rave review or goes, neural handshake!! zzzz
